The job

What is a Point Broadband door-to-door sales job?

You knock doors in neighborhoods where Point Broadband has finished building fiber, show the homeowner what they would be switching to, and write the order on the spot. You are an independent contractor for Velocity One, not an employee of Point Broadband. You get paid when the install actually happens.

Point Broadband is an independent fiber-to-the-home provider headquartered in Opelika, Alabama and Savannah, Georgia. In Hagerstown it is the successor to Hagerstown Fiber, the locally built network that started construction in 2017 and was acquired and rebranded as Point Broadband in September 2020. The company has been expanding across Washington County since 2021.

That history matters at the door. This is not a carrier that showed up last month with a truck and a promise — the fiber in a lot of these neighborhoods has been in the ground for years, and the install teams are local.

Who do you actually work for?

Velocity One Group. Not Point Broadband.

Velocity One is a door-to-door sales organization. Reps are engaged as independent 1099 contractors and sell for established fiber carriers through master-dealer relationships — in Hagerstown, that is Point Broadband. You are not a Point Broadband employee, and you do not represent yourself as one at the door. Misrepresenting who you work for is the fastest way off the team. The structure is explained in full on our about page.

Why now

Why is anyone hiring Point Broadband reps right now?

Because the company roughly doubled in size in May 2026 and said out loud that it intends to double again.

On 4 May 2026, Point Broadband closed its merger with Clearwave Fiber. The combined company passes more than 500,000 homes and businesses across 12 states and has publicly stated a target of surpassing 1 million passings. It is backed by two private equity firms, Berkshire Partners and GTCR, and led by chief executive David Armistead.

Berkshire Partners managing director Drew Walker put the capital commitment plainly in the announcement, saying the firm had committed meaningful capital because it believes in the team’s ability to execute and in long-term demand for fiber.

Here is what that means for someone knocking doors. Fiber companies build faster than they sell, every time — trenching a neighborhood takes weeks and convincing the people living in it takes years. A carrier that just added a merger’s worth of new footprint and is publicly targeting double its current size has, by definition, a large and growing pile of addresses that can get fiber and have not bought it. Those addresses are the job.

Pay

How much do Point Broadband door-to-door sales reps make?

Velocity One pays $200 per activated install to a rookie rep, $215 to an experienced rep, and $225 at the leadership tier, plus an override on team sales for reps running a team. Pay is weekly once you are producing. There is no base salary.

What you earn is that number times how many installs you actually generate, and we are not going to print an average income for you. Your market, your schedule, your work rate and your close rate move that figure too much for an average to mean anything. If you want to run the arithmetic on your own assumptions rather than ours, the pay calculator does exactly that and defaults every input to the bottom of the published industry range.

Velocity One reps are independent 1099 contractors paid 100% on commission. There is no base salary and no guaranteed income. The figures above are per-sale commission rates, not earnings projections — your actual income depends on your effort, skill, schedule and market. Individual results vary.

A real day

What you’ll actually do.

  • Work an assigned map in a Washington County neighborhood where Point Broadband fiber is live
  • Run a pitch we train you on — you are not inventing your own script
  • Check serviceability at the door and write the order there
  • Hand off a clean install so the commission clears
  • Track your own door count, contact rate and close rate daily

Who does well

Coachable beats experienced.

  • You can hear “no” 40 times and knock the 41st door like the first
  • You keep score and you’d rather be paid on results than by the hour
  • You show up without anyone standing over you
  • You’re willing to be corrected in front of other people

No degree. No résumé. Most of our best reps started with zero sales experience.

Where

Which markets are we hiring Point Broadband reps in?

Hagerstown, Maryland is Velocity One’s Point Broadband market. It sits about fifteen minutes from our Glo Fiber cluster in the eastern West Virginia panhandle, so reps in the area often have a choice of two carriers.

Point Broadband’s own footprint runs far wider than Hagerstown — 12 states after the Clearwave merger, concentrated in the Southeast and Midwest. Velocity One does not sell in all of them. If you are near a Point Broadband market that is not listed above, apply anyway: we open markets where we can find reps, and we run travel-paid blitz crews that work new builds nationwide.

FAQ

Questions, answered straight.

Do I work for Point Broadband or for Velocity One?

Velocity One. You are an independent 1099 contractor with us, and our reps sell for established fiber carriers through master-dealer relationships. You are not a Point Broadband employee, and you do not tell customers you are one. Misrepresenting who you work for is the fastest way off the team.

Is Point Broadband a real company?

Yes. It is an independent fiber provider headquartered in Opelika, Alabama and Savannah, Georgia, backed by Berkshire Partners and GTCR. It closed a merger with Clearwave Fiber on 4 May 2026 that took the combined network past 500,000 homes and businesses passed across 12 states. In Hagerstown it is the successor to Hagerstown Fiber, which began building the local network in 2017.

What happened to Hagerstown Fiber?

Point Broadband acquired it and rebranded it in September 2020. The network had been under construction since 2017, and existing Hagerstown Fiber employees moved across to Point Broadband at the time. That is why the fiber in many Hagerstown neighborhoods predates the Point Broadband name on the truck.

Do I need sales experience?

No. Most of our best reps started with none. You ride along with a rep who is actively selling before you take doors on your own, and you get daily coaching rather than a vest and a map.

When do I get paid?

Weekly, once you are producing. Commission is paid per activated install, so it follows the install rather than the signature.

What happens if a customer cancels?

Pay is tied to activated installs, so an order that never installs does not pay. This is the single most important question to ask any door-to-door company before you sign, including us — get the answer in writing from anyone recruiting you.

Do I have to travel?

Only if you want to. Hagerstown is a local route, and the Glo Fiber markets across the state line are close enough to commute to. Blitz trips are travel-paid — flights, lodging, rental car and fuel — and plenty of reps prefer them because new builds knock better than picked-over territory.

Someone has to knock those doors. The application takes about two minutes and there is no résumé.
